Project Overview:

  • The guys in the band reached out with a specific creative brief outlining their ideas. In the brief, they described the over-all look of the cover art should be based on the idea that this is a two members band. The picture they had in mind was of two British guys with guitars wearing boots and coats in a dark alley with a few bright blue accents on the background and the band name on the foreground.
  • I started in Illustrator with the masthead logo design working with the idea of two speech bubbles to make up the closed loop letter “g”. I combined two fonts to customize the lettering for a more modern san serif look that had the same curved, yet pointed forms of the “g.” For the cover art, I used photoshop to make a composite image of all the items requested in the brief. From the mock-up, I created the sketch using Adobe Sketch and a Wacom tablet to hone in on the hand-drawing.
