Project Overview:

  • The client was looking for a graphic designer to design a logo for a new radio station in a Florida beach town. The station featured reggae and other beach-themed music. She already had some clear concepts in mind. For example, she wanted the logo to be clean without being overly simple. She didn’t want too many colors, but to avoid stark color contrasts or anything too complex in detail.
  • Beachside Radio is a brand-new online radio station. The “parent company” is the Beachside Media Group of Cocoa Beach, FL, known mostly for their monthly publication The Beachside Resident. The logo for the radio station had to fit in with the branding under the parent umbrella.
  • We started with a creative brief. Using Illustrator I created a customized typeface and layout that was similar to that of the parent brand, but unique enough to stand on its own. After creating a wordmark, I worked on some iterations of a symbol and/or a character design. We eventually settled on the wave line that morphs from beach waves into a sound wave. From there I created alternative marks that further expressed the beach theme along with some reggae gradient colors for emphasis.
